Rowena J Draper

Based in Pilton, Somerset, home of the famous Glastonbury Festival, Rowena lives and works within one of the UK’s most diverse and vibrant hubs of creativity, one with many stories tucked into its corners.

Born into a family of radical creatives and shaped by a life spent exploring many cultures, she has always approached art as a way of being in the world. Guided by a deep yet playful curiosity, she draws on mythical archetypes and the layered landscape of the psyche, transforming the mundane into the magical with an illustrative, storybook charm. Her work reclaims the wild edges, subversive and often tongue-in-cheek, calling back instinct and animal nature with a quiet rebellion.

I love to shake up old fairy tale narratives as a kind of rewilding process—it feels medicinal

Every Piece Tells A Story

Mushroom Moon draws inspiration from the Mushroom Shamans of the Northern Hemisphere — figures who walk between worlds, guided by earth wisdom and quiet magic. Mushroom Moon holds a sense of ritual, story, and earthy enchantment.

Blessings and Charms is inspired by travelling folklore, nomadic symbolism, and the spirit of wandering stories. Both playful and mystical, it invites you into a travelling world where myth, memory, and mischief walk hand in hand, keeping the spirit of wonder alive.

This magical dragon carries a hoard of stories and secret treasures within its scales. Woven together, these fragments of memory and myth create a creature that feels both ancient and alive, a guardian of journeys taken and the quiet magic hidden in found things.

Inspired by my shamanic encounters with Navajo communities in the deserts of Arizona, this piece reflects on the quiet authority of ceremonial fire. It speaks to deep animism and the way flame can carry wisdom — if we are willing to offer something of ourselves and truly listen.

Free Spirit carries my love for the open road and a life lived untethered. The work also nods to worlds beyond the physical — where death is not an ending, but a sacred reminder to live fully, brightly, unapologetically. A celebration of aliveness in all its realms.

This piece carries the medicine of liberating fearful narratives through play. Here lies a softening of shadows — a reimagining of old stories that have taught us to fear the woods, the witch, the wolf. Sometimes the very thing we were warned about is the thing that sets us free.
